The most popular destinations have traditionally been those closest to home such as France, Italy and Austria. More recently, with the advent of cheaper flights, more far flung destinations which would previously have been inaccessible, have come under the radar. These are places such as the USA and Canada.

The British skier is generally thought of as somewhat of a stalwart holiday maker who will brave the fiercest of conditions. This attitude owes itself, in equal proportions, to the good old British ‘get on with it’ attitude and the assumption that this could be the one ski trip of the season, and therefore the most will be made of it! On days when the locals would pull the duvet back over their head, the British skier will be seen, wearily making their way down the pistes in the harshest of weather. It is also this attitude and resolve which has made the North American resorts so popular. By and large, the average temperature in these resorts is much colder than their european counterparts, so skiing here is not for the fairweather skier – literally!
